Merlynda is a Licentiate and Associate of The London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) - awarded 4 LAMDA Honours Medals in Speech and Drama - is a professional multi Award-Winning Childen’s FairyTales Poet and Children’s Verse-Fabulist - a - multi Award-Winning Children’s Songwriter and Composer of Piano and Keyboard Suites For Children’s Ballet and Dance - and - a Award-Winning Book-Jacket Illustrator-Cartoonist.

Merlynda began her career as professional Comedy Performance Poet - performing Selections of her own hilariously novel: ‘Merlynda Jelly Jaws - Mad, Bad & Daft To Know!’ Live Performance Poetry Acts - at Poetry Festivals, Literary Festivals, Book Festivals, Spoken Word Events, in Cabaret, Fringe Theatre, as a Street Theatre and Ventriloquist Puppet Theatre Performer - and - Live on Radio and pre-recorded on Film.  The List of her Live Poetry Performances, One-Woman Comedy Acts, her Theatre Roles and Theatre Company Productions, her Live Radio Broadcasts and Film Roles, is available on request. 

She lives and works as a professional Children’s FairyTales Poet, Children’s Alphabet Poet, Children’s Animal Poet, Children’s Verse-Fabulist, Children’s Novelty Songwriter - and - Children’s Book Illustrator and Cartoonist in the gloriously enchanting woodlands of Bucks Mills, Devon, England. Creating enchanting and delightful, mysteriously magical poetry and verse-fables for children (and the very young at heart) - and beautifully lyrical, novelty and comical songs for children - each also often illustrated with her own illustrations and cartoons - her illustrated poetry publications for children are displayed in her very own ‘the littlest bookshop in England’: Favourite Books Bookshop - in Bucks Mills near Bideford, Devon - and - in all good bookshops.

Merlynda successfully undertook the rigorously intensive, highly demanding ‘The Mastery’ at ‘The Actors Institute’ in 1988 performing her own original Poetry and a variety of Shakespearean roles to high acclaim. She created and performed her One-Woman Comedy Poetry & Satirical Comedy Monologues Show: ‘The 7 Deadly Sins’ - in a variety of Theatres, Clubs, Stately Homes - and on the London Fringe Theatre circuit - during the late 1980s/1990s - and followed up with a second One-Woman Comedy Poetry, Satirical Comedy Monologues, Comedy Songs & Ventriloquism Show: ‘MERLYNDA! Comedy Poet - And Dog-Lover!’ The Complete Collection of her hilarious Themed One-Woman Comedy Poetry Readings are available on request. 

Her hugely entertaining fairytale poems and verse-fables for children are published in over 47 Poetry Anthologies, as 16 Solo Poetry Collections (a complete List of Publications is available on request) - and her poems are also published within Collections of Romantic, Nature and Place-Inspired Poetry. Her Collections of Comical Verse For Children, Fairytales-in-Rhymes and Verse-Fables are published in both book and booklet format and she has created and recorded 3 Poetry Audio-books, to date. 

She is the Winner and Finalist of several Poetry Awards to date - including: ‘The Golden Grove Forward Poetry Award’ - ‘The PIM Poetry Award’ - and - ‘The Portico Poetry Prize’- and she is the Founder and Editor of ‘The Poetry Box Magazine’ - the Founder and Editor of ‘The Bucks Mills Poetry Magazine’ - and the Director of ‘The Bucks Mills Poetry Festival’. 

Merlynda is also a highly accomplished and much-published Comedy Poet, Comedy & Satire Monologue Writer, Comedy Songwriter, Short Story Author, a commissioned and published Art Author, professional Speechwriter, Theatre and Film Scriptwriter, Conference Speechwriter and Scriptwriter - and a former Newspaper and Magazine Columnist (‘The Observer Series’). 

A professional performer since her early teens (she performed her debut speaking and singing role in Operetta when she was 12) she trained at St Catherine’s Drama College as well as at LAMDA in Professional Drama and Theatre-crafts, Speech, Acting, Singing, Music and Dance. She occasionally conducts Workshops in Creative Poetry-Writing, Singing and Speaking, Ventriloquism & Puppetry and Creative Arts - and has led a number of Youth Theatre Workshops.   

In addition, Merlynda was PA to the Chief Barker of ‘The Variety Club of Great Britain’ and to the MD of Columbia-EMI-Warner Bros in Wardour Street, Soho, London. She also appeared in several Corporate AVs (Films) for large Corporates such as: ‘Polaroid’ (Passport Camera Educational and Marketing Films) and ‘RFD’ (Aircraft Safety Advertising Campaign) - and was a professional Corporate AV Scriptwriter for both ‘Q International’ and ‘QAV Presentations’. 

She is a multi Award-Winning Novelty & Comical Songwriter - a 6 times Semi-Finalist and Finalist in ‘The UKSC’ - and - a ‘Highly-Commended Award-Winner’ in ‘The WM Composers Award For Song’. Over 50 of her songs and over 100 of her keyboard instrumentals are published to date, and her musical compositions have been choreographed and premiered by ‘The Royal Academy of Dance’ and premiered at ‘The EQ International Festival of Dance’. 

Merlynda added Puppetry to her comedy storytelling and poetry performance skills - performing her professional Punch & Judy Shows at Festivals, at Marinas and in Children’s Theatres - and added Ventriloquism - as a professional Walkabout Ventriloquist - to her Live FairyTale Poetry Performances at Poetry Festivals and Literary Festivals.  She was the Founder and Resident Trainer of ‘The Ventriloquist Club of Great Britain’. 

She is also an Award-winning Illustrator-Cartoonist (aka: ‘Kitty Pigfish’) and Book-jacket Illustrator - and was the Winner of ‘The Leaf Book-Jacket Award’. 

She studied Illustration with Ian Simpson (Head of Illustration, Central St Martins) Fine Art & Communications/Art History (Goldsmiths, London) - Drawing (Winchester School of Art) and Watercolours with William Lawrence (Harvey Gallery). 

Her cartoons and illustrations are published by Thames & Hudson and are in the Private Collections of HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and the McLaren Formula 1 Team Principal. Her Illustrations and Cartoons are exhibited internationally and in a wide variety of Central London Galleries and provincial Commercial Galleries (her current ‘Exhibitions List’ is available on request). She has represented Great Britain at ‘The International Grand Prix of Watercolourists’ and at ‘The International Cartoonists Salon’ in France, regularly since 1996. 

Her Children’s Poetry Posters, Greetings Cards and Postcards are on display at her ‘littlest bookshop in England’ - the ‘Favourite Books Bookshop’ - and she participates regularly in ‘Open Studios Events’ including: The MADhurst Art Trek, Devon Artists Open Studios and North Devon Art Trek Events - in addition to being a Book and Art Gallery Owner herself, in both Hampshire and Devon.
